Chilli Paneer/Tofu


Chilli paneer is a fusion cuisine of the Chinese Manchurian. This is a yum appetizer that a dear friend Sowmya (a distinguished cook) made.
Along with mouthwatering biriyani, when Shiv, (her husband – a warm and friendly person) and she hosted a potluck a few weeks back. The credit goes to her for this recipe. Thanks Sowmya, will surely try it. 
What she used:
1 lb Paneer cut into cubes, Vegans may substitute this with tofu
1 tsp chili garlic sauce
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds     
1 stick of curry leaves
1/2tsp coriander powder
1/2 cup onion   
2 cups colored pepper
1 tsp soya sauce
4 green chilies chopped
1 tsp lime juice
Salt to taste
Red Food color (optional)
Oil to fry the paneer
Marinate:
1 1/2 Tbsp Corn flour
1 Tbsp all purpose flour/maida  
1 egg   
1 tsp garlic chopped    
1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
Salt to taste

Cut paneer into cubes. In a mixing bowl, add salt, ginger garlic paste, egg, maida, corn flour and a little water, mix well.Add in the paneer cubes.

Heat oil in a frying pan. Fry the marinated paneer cubes to a golden brown. Set aside.

In a large saucepan, on medium-high heat, add 2 tsp oil. When it begins tro shimmer, add cumin,garlic,ginger garlic paste,chopped green chillies and onion. Stir for a minute. Add in coriander powder, chili powder, little water,chill garlic sauce, coloured pepper ,soya sauce,curry leaves,salt,lime juice. Add in a pinch of color if you like.  Now add paneer and mix well. Finish it off with chopped cilantro. Enjoy!
